The Madison Country Day School boys cross country team finished 11th in the Wisconsin Independent Athletics Association state championships on Nov. 1, 2025, making it a trailblazing rollercoaster of a season for these impressive athletes.
The boys’ cross country team ran at state for the first time in MCDS history. All seven runners performed well and were led by Will ’27 and Emmett ’29, who finished 23rd and 24th overall, with just one second separating their finishing times.
At the Johnson Creek Invite in September, MCDS had the top two runners in the whole meet: Will led the pack, placing first only 10 seconds ahead of Emmett.
Later in the season, however, there were setbacks: illness, losing shoes in races and exhaustion took a toll, said Emmett. Despite it all, the team pushed through and nearly doubled its roster size from the previous year.
The JV team showed some notable performances in multiple meets, with runners like Josh ’28, cutting almost three minutes from his previous time.
