For the first time, the Madison Country Day School boys’ soccer team made it to the semi-final round of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Associate state tournament. Head Coach Benny Delgado led the cooperative team, which included students from Abundant Life Christian School and St. Ambrose School.
Starting forward Victor ’27 was awarded all-state player from the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association. As a striker and a leader on the team, Cherchian credited his team for the honors. “I couldn’t have done it without the amazing coaching and players surrounding me.”
The team went into the state tournament with a record of 11 wins and seven losses. The Hawks co-op team lost to Oostburg in the WIAA semi-finals 2-1, their lone goal coming from Isaias Castrova.
Starting center back Elliot ’27 said the team has its eye on a State win next year. Elliot credits this year’s success – achieving regional and sectional championship titles – to the team’s strong community bond and strong leadership of the starting players.
Yet the team faced challenges and tough teams. Koziol credited Delgado and the combined effort of the team for their perseverance.
The players are eager to see where the future will take them.
